My favourite book as a child was Richard Scarry‘s What Do People Do All Day?, which follows the citizens of Busytown as they go about their lives as shopkeepers, mothers, firemen and so on. It give me comfort back then to think that everyone has a role to play, a reason for being. But adulthood teaches us that life’s more complex than that. So I gave the cover an existential twist, with every character retouched to look like they’re asking themselves the same question: What the hell do I today and why the hell am I doing it?
