DESCRIPTION

In 1917 a land auction held by a Brisbane real estate company advertised blocks on Queensland’s coast as the “Surfers’ Paradise Estate”. This was the first recorded reference to Surfers Paradise, but like the “Gold Coast”, it was likely already local vernacular. The auction failed because at that time it was so difficult to access the area.
