Mr. Squiggle was a beloved TV puppet show created in 1959 by Norman Hetherington, who voiced and operated all the show’s puppets, while his wife Margaret wrote the scripts. For each episode, children would mail in “squiggles” and Mr. Squiggle would deftly turn them into pictures of people, animals and the like by connecting lines with his pencil nose. Most were drawn upside-down because Hetherington saw the images this way while manipulating the puppet from above.
