Hawaii makes you think of grass skirts, tiki drinks and ukulele music, but it wasn’t like that for Captain Cook. After some locals pinched a boat off one of his ships, Cook got mad and figured he’d kidnap their head honcho, King Kalani‘ōpu‘u as a bargaining chip. But the natives caught him in the act and went berserk. Things started getting argy-bargy so Cook pulled out his rifle but before he could fire it, a Hawaiian warrior plunges a knife into his back – a knife Cook himself had given the guy! And that was the end of Captain Cook.
