bex
From $150
Bex was a strong Aussie painkiller containing asprin, phenacetin and caffeine that came in powder or pill form. In the 50s it was seen as “Mother’s Little Helper” and its advertising tagline, “A cup of tea, a Bex, and a good lie down,” gained social currency.
During the 60s it was discovered that Bex was highly addictive and responsible for widespread kidney disease, though it stayed on the market till 1977. In 2011 former PM Kevin Rudd told the media, “It’d be a good thing if everyone had a cup of tea and a Bex and a long lie down,” over reports of his possible challenge to his leader, the incumbent PM, Julia Gillard.
